Mariano Sanz (CNC): Construction has incorporated new methodologies, techniques and automations
According to Mariano Sanz, secretary general of the Spanish National Construction Confederation (CNC), the construction industry is undergoing continuous change and transformation. As this professional explains, innovation in construction processes includes the use of new methodologies, techniques and technologies for data processing and process automation. The incorporation of automatic doors and operators is also a trend in construction, he says.
The incorporation of innovation in construction processes ranges from the use of new methodologies for project management to the use of pioneering technologies for data processing, the automation of processes and the use of new construction techniques, equipment, materials and prevention systems for the execution of works and their subsequent operation and maintenance phase. The incorporation of automatic doors and automation systems is another trend in construction.
The secretary general of the Spanish National Construction Confederation stresses that artificial intelligence is already rapidly transforming the business. "Solutions based on this discipline exist and are applied to improve safety, efficiency and sustainability on construction sites. At the safety level, for example, AI-based tools can be used to monitor construction sites for potential hazards such as falls, electrical hazards and collisions. We are talking about not one, but several revolutions.”
In terms of efficiency, "it has long been known that scheduling systems and drones connected to artificial intelligence can help optimise the allocation of resources such as labour, materials, inspecting construction sites for defects and identifying defects that need to be repaired".
More efficient buildings
Mariano Sanz says that, thanks to technology, it is also possible to "design more energy-efficient buildings by selecting the most sustainable materials". As well as "optimising the operation of buildings by automatically controlling lighting, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems".
The National Construction Confederation is involved, among others, in projects such as Blueprint, which analyses data on skills, employment and labour; VRoad, which improves health and safety; EPIU, which identifies households at risk of energy vulnerability; Icons and BIM Technology, which develop the ability to understand and use technical worksite information; and Bionic, which assesses occupational safety and health in real time.
