TECNIFUEGO Explains About Doors On Evacuation Routes
The Spanish market still has a lack of information and unanswered questions regarding fire doors on evacuation routes. TECNIFUEGO warns that the last revision of the Spanish Technical Building Code, which came into force on 24th September, includes the UNE-EN13637:2016 standard according to DB-SI (Basic Fire Safety Document) for doors on evacuation routes.
TECNIFUEGO is the Spanish Association of Fire Protection Companies. It warns that the last revision of the Spanish Technical Building Code (Royal Decree 732/2019 amending the Technical Building Code), which came into force on 24th September, includes the UNE-EN13637:2016 standard according to DB-SI (Basic Fire Safety Document) for doors on evacuation routes. Compliance gives a presumption of conformity with the Technical Code.
This standard was approved as European standard EN13637:2015 by the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) on 7th May 2015. It has been prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC33 with the collaboration by Spain of the AENOR technical committee AEN/CTN85 (Building shaft enclosures and their accessories).
Spanish Version
Following the process, on 26th December 2017, Spain’s Ministry of Development published comments for the first time. These comments were in the Basic Document on Safety in the Event of Fire (DB-SI), including the UNE-EN 13637:2016 standard as a valid system for electrically controlled opening of doors located on evacuation routes.
As of 24th September, the amendments to the Technical Building Code, Fire Safety Basic Document (DB-SI), came into force, so compliance with UNE EN13637:2016 gives a presumption of compliance with the Technical Code.
