Why Are Smart Doors So Popular in the Hotel Industry?
Álvaro Carrillo de Albornoz is General Director of the Hotel Technology Institute (ITH). He says that automatic doors have become very popular in the hotel sector over the last few years. They allow customers and staff to move around more quickly, and they have become an effective response to Covid-19.
The General Manager of the Hotel Technology Institute (ITH) explains that automatic doors “are a feature that has become more widespread in hotels over the years, and rightly so.” He points out that “they allow customers and staff to move around more easily, avoiding congestion in places like entrances. Congestion caused by something as simple as not being able to open the door because you’ve got your hands full.”
He also says they have become a valuable response to Covid-19 and the desire to avoid touching things. “This is because automatic doors are contact-free, avoiding unnecessary hand contact, so fewer hands touch them.”
It is also interesting how smart doors can help save energy, says this expert. “This is because they have sensors, so the doors don’t get left open accidentally, so heat and air conditioning aren’t wasted.”
Interior Doors
Their popularity is not limited to hotel entrances; these systems are increasingly being used for interior hotel rooms as well. For example, Carrillo de Albornoz believes that “they can be useful at the exit from the kitchen to the dining room, as they help the staff move freely with the trays.” And at “the entrance to the swimming pool or outdoor areas like terraces, gardens and patios.” In these cases, “they also help keep the place ventilated, and they’re comfortable for both customers and staff.”
