Retrofitting Doors Is Potentially a €2.4 billion Business
More than eight million doors in Spain do not comply with current regulations. This is a significant security vulnerability but also an opportunity for companies in the sector. Carlos Márquez, Technical Director of CEportal, estimates that, with an average spend of €300 for each adaptation, the potential business would be worth €2.4 billion.
Márquez explained this in his recent talk at the Conference on Regulatory Requirements & Responsibilities for Maintaining Commercial, Industrial & Garage Doors. He explained that “more and more companies are doing things right, but there are still many that install doors that aren’t safe, which is very serious, and without the CE mark.”
He went on to say that “the complaints from the sector are that there are too many cowboy outfits that engage in unfair competition.” On the other hand, “there isn’t enough public awareness about the potential dangers of doors.” Also, “owners (and property managers) are too often unaware of their subsidiary liability.”
In this context, Márquez emphasized the opportunity opening up for the sector in retrofitting doors. And he gave an example: “in one year, retrofitting just 5% of the existing eight million non-compliant doors would amount to €120 million of new business.”
