Since 1992, automatic doors have been considered “machines” and are subject to the relevant European provisions. This implies that they must comply with certain regulatory requirements about documentation, as evidence of compliance with EU safety requirements. Find out about the basic documents that manufacturers and distributors must now provide to their customers.

The automatic door industry took a significant step forward in 1992 when these products began to be considered to be “machines” and were therefore subject to the corresponding provisions. This change means that now these doors have to comply with documentation standards such as the CE mark and the conformity and performance declarations, which guarantee compliance with European Union safety requirements. These are some of the essential documents that manufacturers and distributors must provide to their customers, along with the warranty and the installation, use, and maintenance manuals.

In parallel to this regulatory initiative, manufacturers and distributors of automatic doors are becoming increasingly aware of their responsibility towards their customers and are trying to provide as much information and service as possible. “As well as the European conformity data sheet, the maintenance log book and the installation manual that require the same CE marking, we also provide a technical drawing with the measurements, colour and other details,” says Juan Oliver, CEO of Marver Group. “And we give a ten-year guarantee, well beyond the minimum required by law.”

Guaranteeing Operation

The documentation requirements guarantee the quality and proper functioning of the doors, but above all their safety. Adrián Díaz is Marketing Manager at Gruman, a firm involved in the logistics sector that works with Expaim. He stresses the importance of the customer’s understanding that “all the applicable regulations are aimed to ensure user safety.”

So, “equipment must comply with the requirements set by European regulations, as once they are manufactured and installed, they need regular maintenance by qualified professional technicians, to ensure proper functioning of the equipment and its safety components, which drastically reducing the risk of accidents.”
