Increasing awareness of OHS in the construction industry
Awareness of occupational risk prevention in construction is growing. This is proven by 11,000 queries received in 2023 by the free advice service line (Línea Prevención), which included technical questions related to collective means of protection, information and criteria for the selection of safer equipment, safety in machinery, auxiliary means, innovative technical solutions, etc.
Línea Prevención, a benchmark in free advice on occupational health and safety in construction, has dealt with almost 100,000 queries (by telephone and e-mail) resolved and attended by technicians from the Construction Labour Foundation specialised in occupational risk prevention. Only in 2023 the free occupation risk prevention advice service managed to surpass 11,000 prevention consultations.
The nature of these enquiries is very wide-ranging, although the most common topics relate to technical issues such as collective means of protection, information and criteria for the selection of safer equipment, safety in machinery, auxiliary means, innovative technical solutions, etc. As well as topics on the general agreement of the construction sector in matters related to occupational health and safety; and references to the current regulations on occupational risk prevention and compliance with them, particularly in all matters relating to construction sites.
The most common queries also include the type of training required for the different trades involved in the construction sector; questions relating to relevant figures in health and safety (preventive resource, health and safety coordinator, etc.); sector-specific regulations, such as Law 32/2006 regulating subcontracting, Royal Decree 1627/1997, etc.; as well as information on products and services made available to the sector by the Construction Labour Foundation on health and safety in the workplace.
