Leica Geosystems has presented a revolutionary laser scanner, with new functions, a more compact design and a capture speed up to five times faster than the original BLK 360 model. Its versatility allows for its different professional applications such as in engineering, construction, public works, architecture, public safety, and even for forensic analysis in accidents or emergencies.

In criminal investigation every minute counts. For this reason, to digitally secure the scene of a crime or homicide is to preserve it with minimum contamination and alteration of physical evidence. In this sense it is important to “maintain the chain of custody using our tried and tested solutions which offer better investigation perspectives”.

When it comes to the investigation and reconstruction of accidents, it is vital to capture and digitally share precise 3D models and diagrams and complete collision scenes, such as traffic accidents, multiple vehicle collisions and train crashes. As such, it is important to simplify and improve documentation in these critical and time-sensitive environments, and create digital forensic replica of the real scene.

Investigation and accidents

With regard to advanced fire and explosion investigation, it is essential to examine and document the scene of any incident of this type. “Our solutions identify, gather, and preserve evidence and avoid their contamination. It is possible to preserve the integrity and assess a fire or explosion scene while creating a permanent record of the scene".

Finally, in security and major incident management, it is essential to use a digital representation of the site to effectively plan and coordinate protection activities and to understand where public safety may be compromised. “The creation of a digital environment helps to understand crowd behaviour and identify bottlenecks, find escape routes and model scenarios”.
