IFEMA MADRID is developing a solar energy plant for self-sustained power generation

Scheduled to be operational by the second quarter of 2026, this new plant will feature over 7,600 solar modules installed on the roofs of halls and car park canopies. Additionally, it will include 104 new charging points for electric vehicles. To achieve this, IFEMA MADRID has allocated an investment of 10.5 million euros, enabling an annual savings of approximately 7,000 kWh. This initiative aligns with the conference centre's commitment to reducing emissions in the coming years.
IFEMA MADRID has begun construction on a new solar energy plant at its Recinto Ferial, set to become one of the largest urban self-consumption plants without surpluses. The facility will feature 7,611 solar modules and a peak power capacity of 4.52 MWp.
The solar power plant will be installed on the roofs of buildings, halls, and connection centres, as well as on canopies in the Recinto Ferial’s parking areas, strategically positioned in locations with the highest annual sunlight exposure. Specifically, the solar modules will be installed on the roofs of the cafeterias in halls 9 and 10, the roofs of the Recinto Ferial's South and North Office Buildings, and the areas between halls 7 and 9, as well as 8 and 10. Additionally, canopies equipped with solar panels will be placed in zones C, E, and H of the green-orange and brown-red car parks.
This installation will generate an annual savings of 6,972.55 kWh and will also provide 104 new electric vehicle charging points in the car parks for exhibitors and visitors. These will include 50 double 22 kW alternating current (AC) chargers and 2 double 80 kW direct current (DC) chargers.
IFEMA MADRID has committed an investment of 10.5 million euros for this project, covering its execution, implementation, and maintenance for the first four years of operation. The installation of the plant is set to begin in May 2025, with a completion timeline of 40 weeks.
