The Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida runway celebrates its 25th anniversary consolidated as the greatest international reference of swimwear fashion.

The Councilor for Industry, Trade and Crafts of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Minerva Alonso Santana, presented today the keys to the new edition of GCSW by MC, together with Eduardo López-Puertas, General Director of IFEMA MADRID, and Nuria de Miguel, director of the catwalk.

The commitment of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria to promote the development and projection of the fashion industry has allowed this event to become the great swimwear catwalk in Europe.

The catwalk will count with the presence of the successful Turkish actor Kerem Bürsin as ambassador to take the GCSW by MC brand around the world and reinforce the international image of the island of Gran Canaria.

 Aurelia Gil, Palmas, Chela Clo and Como la Trucha al Trucho, are some of the Canarian designers and brands participating in this edition, as well as Guillermina Baeza, TCN, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada and Dolores Cortés, national, and Melisa Odabash international, among others.

On October 19, on the occasion of International Breast Cancer Day, the Cabildo de Gran Canaria will organize a solidarity fashion show as part of the catwalk, under the slogan We Swim Together, which will bring together collections adapted to the physical consequences of this disease.

The Cabildo de Gran Canaria presented today, within the framework of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, the next edition of Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida, to be held from October 21 to 24 at the Expomeloneras venue in Maspalomas (Gran Canaria).

The commitment of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria with the fashion and design industry has allowed Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida, the only event in Europe in its category, to continue for 25 years and consolidate its position as an international benchmark in swimwear fashion; an objective that has been reinforced in recent years as one of the great strongholds of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria. So this new edition will be a special edition framed in the celebration of its 25th anniversary, whose main commitment remains to promote the catwalk internationally and strengthen its position as a key event in its genre within the circuit of European catwalks. Along with this, the challenge also to promote the professionalization of the catwalk, incorporating to its program names of recognized prestige of the Canary Islands, national and international design.

Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida will bring together in this edition about 40 designers and brands, of which 11 are from the Canary Islands -from Gran Canaria and other islands of the archipelago-; 10 from the peninsula, and 6 international. The full schedule of participants of this 2021 edition will be announced soon, among which is confirmed the incorporation, among others, of renowned designers such as Aurelia Gil, Palmas, Guillermina Baeza, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada or Melisa Odabash, among others.

Kerem Bürsin, the most international face of GCSW by MC

Precisely to take the GCSWM brand around the world and reinforce the international image of Gran Canaria as a tourist destination, the catwalk will have in this edition the presence as ambassador of the successful Turkish actor Kerem Bürsin, star of the series Love is in the Air, which will help to promote the island and swimwear design.

The event was presented in Madrid by Minerva Alonso Santana, Minister of Industry, Trade and Crafts of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, together with Eduardo López-Puertas, general director of IFEMA MADRID, and Nuria de Miguel, director of Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida.

During the ceremony, the Councilor of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria highlighted that "we are very proud of the importance that this catwalk represents for having managed to maintain the ambition of gaining space in the international market, giving prominence and visibility to swimwear and the great designers who have helped to consolidate Gran Canaria Swim Week as a reference in the international calendar. Likewise, he pointed out that "this edition in which we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the catwalk is a milestone in its trajectory and a new turning point in the projection of the catwalk"." Therefore, -he added- this edition will be a key edition for the Moda Cálida project, promoted by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, from which we have channeled throughout these 25 years our international projection, our entrepreneurial capacity and our tourist potential through fashion"

Likewise, the Councilor revealed the identity of the new ambassador of Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida, who this year is the actor Kerem Bürsin, and who "represents an exceptional opportunity for the internationalization of both the catwalk and the talent of the designers who will parade in the next edition of the catwalk, and of course the tourist potential of Gran Canaria"

Likewise, Eduardo López-Puertas, general director of IFEMA MADRID, highlighted the opportunity for collaboration offered by the alliance established between the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and IFEMA MADRID, and wanted to thank the entity for its commitment and its common commitment to fashion "Now more than ever the collaboration between institutions takes on greater significance because of the need to add assets that contribute to consolidate the objectives of internationalization and professionalization set by the Cabildo de Gran Canaria as a priority to raise the level of the catwalk and consolidate it as the great international reference for swimwear design”

Regarding the selection of designers and brands present in Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida 2021, Nuria de Miguel has given some of the keys to the edition, and highlighted the wide selection of participating brands: "The selection of invited brands in this edition has been made following criteria of quality, prestige and projection. In total, more than ten designers have been selected by the Fashion Committee, which has significantly increased the level of participation, reaching almost 40 participating brands. The director of the catwalk has also revealed some names of designers and established firms that will present their Spring-Summer 2022 novelties on the Canary Islands catwalk, and has highlighted the firm commitment of the organization for the internalization and professionalization of the event.

Benefit Runway We Swim Together (Nadamos Juntas)

For the first time, coinciding with the International Breast Cancer Day, the Let's Swim Together fashion show will be held, which aims to show collections adapted to the consequences that this disease causes in women's bodies, as well as to launch a message of hope and positivity. In addition, the parade will have a charitable character with the aim of supporting this cause, the commitment to research and prevention. For this reason, all funds raised from ticket sales will be donated 50% to the Spanish Association Against Cancer, and the Canary Association Against Breast and Gynecological Cancer. On the catwalk will parade women who have already lived this disease. They will be in charge of showing a selection of designs of different brands specially created for those who have overcome interventions related to breast cancer, such as mastectomy.
