Santamarta at MBFWMadrid
About Santamarta
Santamarta is a creative ecosystem, developed by Marta Maté and Alfredo Maestro, in which textile design, artistic creation, environmental awareness and social collaboration converge.
This multidisciplinary project arose from the need to reuse discarded resources, to transform them via upcycling into design pieces with a minimalist style.
Santamarta's goal is to sensitize people through art and design, making them more aware of the environmental impact generated by current consumption habits.
Based on coherence, the project seeks zero waste through its pattern making, its packaging made with production leftovers and the creation of artistic pieces, in addition to collaborating with social projects for the manufacture of the pieces.

“ABOUT PERCEPTION”
We shape the world we perceive, that is, we create our own reality through perception. It is therefore of great importance to refine personal sensitivity, to connect with the environment, as this defines who we are and how we understand what is around us.
Such awareness will be achieved through the appreciation of imperfection and beauty. These concepts, normally opposites, converge when we stop understanding beauty as an attribute limited to aesthetics, and we begin to see it as the relationship between the subject and an object.
This appreciation has a direct relationship with upcycling, since the garments and objects discarded for some, are perceived as a raw material yet to be exploited for others.
Throughout the collection, the appearance of multi-position garments insists on the concept of individual perception and the transformation of reality from the point of view of each one. The wrinkles of the leather, the folds of the fabric when falling and the use of second-hand garments as raw material, are part of this question of perception.
Through a minimalist approach “ABOUT PERCEPTION” shows upcycling from a different perspective pays attention to the pattern and simplicity of each piece, generating the minimum environmental impact. Reaffirming this message, the raw material for this collection are second-hand garments such as wool suits, leather jackets, jeans and stockings among others.
