Mal Studio Custom Project at MBFWMadrid
About Mal Studio Custom Project
MAL Studio Custom Project; It is the personal project of Michelle Lima. Peruvian of origin, she trained in Fashion Styling and Design at INEDI Bilbao and Central Saint Martins of London, specializing in Artisanal Tailoring in “La Confianza” Madrid.
MAL Studio Custom Project is like a constant moodboard of ideas in which Michelle Lima creatively relies on experiences and anecdotes from a nostalgic, personal and metaphorical vision of her memories.
Her creations are characterized by a timeless style with great conceptual weight of genderless garments, each project - collection is a manifesto of emotions to tell, in a mix of textures and superimpositions of garments, creating shapes and volumes with technical fabrics and natural fibers, also rescuing vintage fabrics and dead material from other fashion companies, while reusing pieces from her past projects, which she redesigns, as a kind of reinvention and sustainability (REWORKED).

“AXIS MUNDI”
The “AXIS MUNDI” is metaphorically the axis that links the centre of the earthly world with its celestial, figurative archetype. From the centre, one can venture to any of the four cardinal points, make discoveries and establish new centres that become new known and settled realms.
On the polar axis and on the solstitial axis. This cosmic axis is related to the tree, which sinks its roots underground and whose branches rise upwards.
In my quest to find my place, this project signifies my Axis Mundi. It is the beginning of all that road travelled, those journeys between Peru and Spain and, especially, that first journey full of dreams towards a place that is now my centre, my here, my now. The collection is a manifesto of emotions, nostalgia; it is like a tree house where I have my drawings and my stories, or like the song “AXIS MUNDI” by Alex Anwandter.
For the development of the collection, we have reused pieces from previous collections and surplus fabric from other companies. We have reworked metal belts into new shapes and socks, creating a new loom. We have also used other materials such as quilted fabrics, poplins, pinstripes, waterproof gabardines... that give shape to a collection of unique pieces.
