RetroWorld
RetroWorld, the section of Madrid Games Week dedicated to classic computing and old video games, will return in 2019 to become the family section par excellence at the fair, through a wonderful entertainment offering that will bring together the young and not so young, lovers all of those video games that never go out of style, in a unique and inimitable space.
RetroWorld will be bringing an endless range of classic gaming stations to Madrid Games Week including recreational games, table football, old microcomputers and the most curious machines out of all those that long ago filled old gaming arcades.
MUTECVI Technological Museum of Video Games
As on previous occasions, the famous MUTECVI Technological Museum of Video Games, one of the largest in the world, will be selecting for RetroWorld (from its 4000 hardware pieces, 16,000 software programs and 2,000 items related to video games), an impressive collection of consoles, video games, devices and amazing gaming peripherals, carefully chosen to be proudly displayed at Madrid Games Week.
In the commercial section of RetroWorld, visitors to Games Week can purchase the most exclusive retro hardware and software from a wide range of stores and exhibitors specialising in classic gaming.
RetroWorld lectures
Another of the strengths of RetroWorld will be the lectures, conferences and round table discussions, with the participation of popular and important personalities from the vintage scene, in which the past of video games, which is now very current again, will be treated with the greatest of affection.
A highlight of this section will be presentations of books, such as the one written by Attila Merino (Amstrad Eterno, Homebrew Encyclopaedia) entitled “Un Pasado Mejor: La Edad de Oro del Software Español” (“A Better Past: The Golden Age of Spanish Software”), with the stellar intervention of Nacho Ruiz (Dinamic Software, FX Interactive), José Luis Domínguez (Indescomp, Amstrad Spain), José Antonio Morales (Opera Soft) etc. With El Sofá de Baiken we embark on a journey to the 1990s, where the Nostalgia Videoclub awaits us: a space where we will talk about those magical places filled with video games and unrewound tapes, in a space full of laughs, memorable anecdotes and hilarious gifts. Ash the Dragon (Sonic Paradise) will reflect on how the retro is once again topical with renovated machines from the past like the Mega Drive mini. Thanks to Editorial GamePress, we will enjoy remembering the company Konami, which celebrates 50 years of its existence providing enjoyment with its great titles. And as the highlight of our meeting place for friends with a common hobby, the classic video game: we will be celebrating the 35th anniversary of Dinamic Software, a legendary Spanish development company and authentic video game start-up in our country, in a very special way: bringing together, in a lecture full of surprises, the original team that set up the fabulous Hispanic company: Pablo, Víctor and Nacho Ruiz, along with Luis Rodríguez Soler and many other important figures that contributed to the start of the well-known Golden Age of Software in Spain with Dinamic.
Video Games for Food
The commercial, playable and cultural offering at RetroWorld will be rounded off with the charitable activity of Video Games for Food, which will help the neediest families by asking visitors to Madrid Games Week to bring non-perishable food, the only currency with which to obtain the new and second-hand goods donated for the cause by different companies.
