Claudia Herranz wins the 4th Student Pastry Chef Championship

InterSICOP - the International Bakery, Patisserie, Ice Cream, Coffee and Equipment Show organised by IFEMA Madrid - hosted the fourth edition of the National Student Pastry Chef Championship on 19 and 20 February.
Organised by the Spanish Confederation of Pastry Artisan Entrepreneurs (CEEAP), it is a competition that seeks to promote quality training and, therefore, to bet on the future of this trade.
Seven contenders, several prizes
In this fourth edition, the jury, made up of Manu Jara, Pablo Morales, Lluís Costa and Ricard Martínez, declared Claudia Herranz, from the María de Zayas y Sotomayor vocational training institute in Majadahonda (Madrid), the winner . The student was also awarded the prize for the best chocolate cake and the best millefeuille. Her cake consisted of a Guinness and cocoa sponge, a dark chocolate mousse and an apricot jelly. Her winning millefeuille included a lemon ganache and a lime cream. And finally, the cake featured some surprising flavours such as basil, cheese and tomato in the form of jam.
The silver medal went to Román Sysko from the Lleida Catering School, who also won the prize for the best cake. And the bronze medal was awarded to María Joaquina Oliveira from L'Atelier Barcelona.
The other participants were Alejandra Díez from the Alpajés vocational training institute in Aranjuez; Verónica Gil from the Andrés de Vandelvira vocational training institute in Albacete; Laura Martínez from CPIFP Hurtado de Mendoza in Granada, and Alicia Pisa from Escuela Altaviana in Valencia.
