Andalusia, Guest Region at Fruit Attraction 2023
From 3 to 5 October, Andalusia will participate as the Guest Region in the 15th Anniversary of Fruit Attraction, with the aim of boosting the regional agri-food industry through the promotion of products, their production methods and their identification in the market.
The Junta de Andalucía, through the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, is taking part in the fair to promote Andalusia's position as a world leader in the fruit and vegetable industry. With Andalusia's special starring role, the Junta will consolidate its support for producers at the fair, where foodstuffs grown under the highest standards of quality, sustainability and innovation will be on display.
The Regional Ministry states that "we are once again attending Fruit Attraction to support the work of the fruit and vegetable industry, which is so important in Andalusia. Despite the difficulties caused by high production costs and the scarcity of water resources, it continues to work to supply the markets with products of excellent quality and unique flavour."
In the years that the fair has been held, the Regional Ministry of Agriculture has increased its institutional participation from 40 exhibiting companies and organisations in 2009 to more than 170 companies in the 2022 edition. "Fruit Attraction is a benchmark commercial tool for marketing on a global scale. Andalusia believes in its fruit and vegetable industry and is aware of its international potential. The Regional Ministry of Agriculture is proud to participate once again in this fair, which is such an important showcase for this key industry in the Andalusian economy, with figures that in 2023 will already exceed those of last year. We continue to work to give the business community what they deserve in these times: stability and institutional support," the institution adds.
With its participation as the Guest Region, Andalusia will promote Gusto del Sur, its great agri-food quality brand, to showcase its products in all markets under the slogan 'Gusto del Sur. It’s quality. It's Andalusia.’ At Fruit Attraction, it will also showcase this seal, which identifies quality-guaranteed agri-food products, in response to the new demands of the industry and today's consumers. In addition, it will take advantage of this event in Madrid to obtain new business memberships to the seal, which entails a series of benefits.
The fruit and vegetable industry in Andalusia is strategic for the region's economy and is one of the best ways of promoting the Andalusia brand abroad. This economic pillar is reflected, among others, in its export figures with 2.55 billion euros between January and March 2023 from the sale abroad of 1.2 million tonnes of products. This rate represents an increase of 5.4% compared to the same months in 2022, according to data from the Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development. As for the provinces, the main highlights were Almeria, with international sales of fruit and vegetables worth almost 1.55 billion euros (826,500 tonnes), and Huelva, with 138,000 tonnes valued at 499.5 million euros.
The Guest Region figure appeared in the last edition of Fruit Attraction, and it will be maintained in subsequent ones, with the aim of reinforcing the visibility of the different autonomous regions and above all, to show the diversity of Spanish production.
Organised by IFEMA MADRID and FEPEX, Fruit Attraction celebrates its 15th edition this year, from 3 to 5 October, with an expected participation of more than 1,800 companies from 55 countries, more than 58,000 m2 of fruit and vegetable offerings and an expected attendance of 90,000 professionals from 130 countries.
