FiturNext 2025 announces its first speakers to address how tourism can contribute to sustainable food management

Experts from the public and private sectors will address the 2025 Challenge from a comprehensive perspective, also hosting the awards ceremony.

FiturNext, the FITUR Observatory dedicated to promoting good tourism practices in terms of sustainability, will host four conferences dedicated to promoting food sustainability in tourism between 22 and 25 January at the Madrid International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR).

In alliance in this edition with Aqualia, reference brand in the management of the integral water cycle for all uses (urban, industrial and agricultural), the FiturNext programme will be complemented with the presentation of awards to the winning initiatives of the 2025 Challenge, talks and round tables with experts who will highlight the opportunities and services of the tourism industry to contribute to reducing food waste.

Sustainability for the planet, people and industry

The event will be attended by renowned professionals from the tourism sector who promote a conscious and responsible industry with food management. Among them, Rosa Nordfeldt, Sustainability Director of Air Europa, Marie Lindström, Country Director of Too Good To Go, Mayte Alonso Garcia de Vinuesa, Directorate General of Tourism of Extremadura, Regional Ministry of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports and João Barroso, Director of Sustainability and R&D of Vinos de Alentejo.

With a long history in the aviation industry, Nordfeldt is responsible for developing and implementing the company's strategic plan on sustainability and the environment. For her part, Lindström is the general manager in Spain of Too Good To Go, one of the winning initiatives of the FiturNext 2025 Challenge and the world's largest platform to fight food waste. Alonso is an expert in the promotion of Extremadura's cultural, natural and gastronomic heritage, while Barroso specialises in sustainable viticulture.

Awards ceremony for the winning initiatives

As every year, FiturNext will kick off with the awards ceremony for the winning projects of the 2025 Challenge dedicated to the sustainable management of food in tourism. Rutas Gastronómicas Sostenibles de Extremadura, promoted by the Regional Government of Extremadura's Department of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sport, Hurtigruten Cruises and Too Good To Go were the winning initiatives in this edition.

The agenda will also include dialogues with private and public sector organisations, round tables on technology and cultural and natural heritage as a driver of food sustainability and a university workshop on participation and co-creation in tourism.
