Sustainable practices generate more profit for the hotel industry
The integration of sustainable practices not only contributes to the well-being of the environment, but can also increase the revenue of hotel establishments by generating tangible business profit if done coherently. This was highlighted at the closing conference on 'Innovation, digitalisation and sustainability' of the Hosteltur Academy, AEHM (Hotel Business Association of Madrid) and the Madrid Regional Government.
During the event, different professionals related to the hotel industry analysed topics such as responsible and sustainable accommodation, and explained how to establish a sustainability strategy that is coherent with the brand, the environment and the accommodation business model and that brings revenue. This includes environmental management, strategic partnerships and the effective communication of sustainability strategies.
The speakers also stressed that sustainability in the tourism sector is also driven by the financial and regulatory world, as reported by Hosteltur. On the one hand, the banks have placed value on sustainability in order to be able to access better financing conditions, while the legislation has served to make companies that are not yet very convinced of working in this area feel somewhat obliged to do so.
