The 29th Active Tourism Awards announces the four winners in the national and international categories.
The annual event organised by FITUR and AireLibre Magazine seeks to boost the development and marketing of the tourism industry with a focus on the promotion of active tourism products. turismo activo.
In the national category, the winners were 'Camino de Hierro: Sendero Natural a través de una obra de ingeniería ferroviaria increíble’ (iron road, a nature trail through an incredible feat of railway engineering) and ‘Overtrails Adventure Challenge’ and in the international category, 'A Glimpse into Montenegro wild beauty: Katun roads' and 'Ruta del Mezcal de Guerrero: Fandango Mezcalero’ (the mezcal route of Guerrero).
The International Tourism Trade Fair, FITUR 2024, announces the winners of the 29th Best Active Tourism Product Competition organised in conjunction with AireLibre Magazine. The goal of these awards is to put a spotlight the companies and professionals that develop quality tourism products and promote tourism experiences aligned with the principles of sustainability that should govern the progress of the tourism industry.
During the jury's assessment process, the criteria evaluated are the uniqueness and innovation of the product, its contribution to sustainable tourism development in its economic, environmental and social aspects and the quality of its image and the marketing elements surrounding the product. Once again this year, the jury highlighted the quality of the 56 proposals presented by the companies participating in FITUR.
National category
- ‘Camino de Hierro: Sendero Natural a través de una obra de ingeniería ferroviaria increíble’. Presented by SALAMANCA (Oficina de Congresos de Salamanca), the Camino de Hierro (iron road) is a pedestrian route that runs along a conditioned section of railway line that has been closed to trains; it combines the grandiosity of the most representative civil engineering of the 19th century surrounded by spectacular natural beauty through tunnels and bridges.
- ‘Overtrails Adventure Challenge’. Presented by NAVARRA (Turismo de Navarra), it is a sustainable and inclusive project that develops a sport-tourism activity in exceptional areas selected for their natural beauty, their athletic challenges and their historical references and local traditions. The challenge is organised around six fixtures of adventure races and popular walks, individually, in pairs or in groups of 3 or 4 people and are accessible to participants with functional diversity.
International category
- ‘A Glimpse into Montenegro wild beauty: Katun roads’. Presented by MONTENEGRO (National Tourism Organisation of Montenegro), this experience allows visitors to immerse themselves in the katun mountain huts, which are the very essence of Montenegrin culture. The katuns look like a continuation of nature thanks to their excellent adaptation to the surrounding environment. They are a cultural treasure, an ancient and well-preserved tradition and a unique asset that can rarely be found elsewhere in Europe.
- ‘Ruta del Mezcal de Guerrero: Fandango Mezcalero'. The State of GUERRERO, participating on the MEXICO stand, presents this route as a tourism offer that seeks to promote the cultural identity, folklore, gastronomy and natural sites, to positively impact the economy of the communities of Chilpancingo, Tixtla, Chilapa, Zitlala, Eduardo Neri, Leonardo Bravo, Mochitlán, Quechultenango and Heliodoro Castillo, as well as to contribute to peace and harmony in these municipalities.
The winners will receive an accreditation diploma at their stand at FITUR 2024 , taking place from 24 to 28 January at IFEMA MADRID.
