The heating and DHW sector had a turnover of 960 million in 2023
Nicolas Klingenberg, president of FEGECA, the Association of Manufacturers of Heat Generators and Emitters, presented the report on the heating and domestic hot water production market, which in 2023 reached a turnover of 960 million euros, reflecting 'a continued commitment to innovation and efficiency'.
In 2023, the heating and domestic hot water sector is facing significant challenges in a setting of economic and political uncertainty, according to Nicolas Klingenberg, President of FEGECA. The decline in demand has had a significant impact on the sector's financial results, marking a period of adaptation and transformation. 'With an eye on the decarbonisation of buildings, the industry has committed to several technologies to modernise heating systems, strengthening the path towards energy sustainability.' According to the report presented by FEGECA at Agremia's headquarters, in 2023 the sector's turnover reached 960 million euros, reflecting 'a continuous commitment to innovation and efficiency'.
During this period, the sector has been immersed in a context of uncertainty, mainly driven by overstocking in distribution, significant inflation and rising interest rates, which adversely affected the sector's operations and trade. 'These challenges have led to a slowdown in investment and consumer spending'.
Energy transition
In response to the urgent need to accelerate the energy transition, FEGECA promotes 'diversification, system integration and a multi-technology perspective, advocating energy efficient solutions that respect the principles of environmental and social responsibility'. Heat pumps, renewable fuels and hybridisation of systems are 'the group's huge commitment'.
As highlighted in the FEGECA presentation, European directives such as the Energy Efficiency Directive drive the development of efficient and renewable systems. 'These directives offer flexibility in the implementation of measures to address energy and climate challenges in a fair and effective manner.'
It is essential to ensure transparency and clarity of information on these regulatory changes. FEGECA is committed to providing accurate information on the new regulations and their implications, advocating for government support to encourage the transition to more sustainable technologies. In addition, the simplification of support programmes is essential to stimulate investment in thermal upgrades and to promote the adoption of more efficient and environmentally friendly technologies.
The president of FEGECA, who was accompanied by Sonia Pomar, director of the association, stated that 'we are at a challenging time due to the economic situation and the consumer's decision-making power, among other factors'. However, he stressed that 'this does not prevent manufacturers from remaining optimistic about the future'. He also stressed the importance of 'working closely with the public administration, promoting renewable energies and responding to consumer needs'. He also expressed his confidence that 'through a joint effort between all manufacturers, the future will be very promising'.
