Energy saving certificates will generate many benefits
Energy saving certificates will facilitate the growth of the energy efficiency market in Spain, as well as other benefits such as boosting employment, productivity and business competitiveness, according to Jacobo Llerena, Deputy Director General for Energy Efficiency of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, at the most recent annual Atecyr forum.
The participants at the 17th Annual Forum of Atecyr (Spanish Technical Association of HVAC and Refrigeration) analysed the challenge of decarbonisation through the renovation of the thermal installations of existing buildings. And, in that regard, the President of the Association, Rafael Vázquez Martí, highlighted the relevance of that decarbonisation of thermal installations in the overall process.
For his part, Jacobo Llerena Iglesias, Deputy Director General for Energy Efficiency of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, thanked Atecyr for its work as the leading association in the drive towards the ambitious targets for the decarbonisation of the thermal installations of existing buildings. And, in his talk about Energy Saving Certificates, regulation and new prospects in the sphere of energy efficiency, he declared the Administration’s solid conviction that this innovative voluntary mechanism for energy sellers will indeed contribute to reducing energy demand, thereby smoothing the path towards the “Fit for 55”, ceding the initiative to the private sector.
The need to implement those Energy Saving Certificates is based on the way in which they will promote the monetisation of the savings achieved, the flexibility of their fulfilment and their achievement at the lowest possible cost, which, in principle, should facilitate the growth of the energy efficiency market in Spain and the generation of non-energy benefits such as boosting employment, productivity and business competitiveness.
Neutrality of emissions
Along those same lines, Juan I. Rodríguez Fernández-Arroyo, Energy Director of the INEGA (Galician Energy Institute Agency), outlined the main policies and strategies that are being applied by the Regional Government of Galicia in order to achieve the neutrality of the greenhouse gas emissions of the thermal installations of existing buildings. The funds allocated in order to achieve a reduction in demand, increase efficiency and encourage the use of renewable energies have reached their final recipients and have enabled Galicia to position itself as a leading energy efficiency region.
