Fernando Valladares López, President of the Spanish Association of Engineers and Engineering Consultants for Installations (AEDICI) and Deputy Director of Valladares Ingeniería, tells us in the following interview about how air conditioning and cooling installations maintain temperature, humidity and air quality parameters which are essential for working in buildings.

In your view, what new air conditioning and cooling trends will we see in the buildings of the future?

The gradual replacement of CO2-producing equipment. The aim will be to eliminate in-situ production of CO2.

How important is the design stage for installations in buildings, especially for air conditioning and cooling?

The design stage is the most important part of the process when implementing air conditioning/cooling solutions. Determining loads and selecting the best solution based on the different parameters is crucial for a satisfactory installation.

The design stage needs to be followed with good implementation and management of the work, as well as successful start-up.

What role does an air conditioning and cooling system play in building control and maintenance?

Air conditioning and cooling installations are priority areas for the functioning of a building, as they maintain the temperature, humidity and air quality parameters that are essential to any activity within its walls. Maintenance of these installations is closely linked to good design and ensures the satisfactory functioning of the building.

What other challenges do you consider important?

The sustainable development goals for 2030 that we have set ourselves as a company mean taking extra care in the design and operation of air conditioning and cooling installations.
