

ARCOmadrid 2025 acquisitions
After its first two days dedicated exclusively to professionals, the 44th edition of ARCOmadrid, open until Sunday 9 March, has already recorded important acquisitions.
Once again, the Ministry of Culture and the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía strengthens the museum's collections by acquiring new works from ARCOmadrid 2025. A total of 26 works by 19 artists, 14 of which are women, valued at 497,999 euros: Laia Abril, Elena Blasco, Ángela de la Cruz, Victorina Durán, Agnes Essonti Luque, María Luisa Fernández, Josep Grau-Garriga, Raquel Manchado, Mónica Mays, Marta Minujín, Robert Morris, Maribel Nazco, Mònica Planes, Carlos Rodríguez-Méndez, Marina Vargas, Judy Chicago, Juan Pablo Echeverri, Daniel Steegmann Mangrané, Luz Lizarazo.
Likewise, the Ministry for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITECO) and the Ministry of Culture have acquired works at the fair valued at 188,000 euros. A total of 7 works by 7 artists which will be part of the first edition of the Climate Biennial: Irene Grau, Jorge Yeregui, Laura Palau, Sonia Navarro, Asunción Molinos Gordo, Belén Rodríguez, and Abelardo Gil-Fournier.
Among the institutional and corporate purchases confirmed for this edition of ARCOmadrid 2025 are those of the Fundación ARCO, which has expanded its Collection with the acquisition of 10 artworks paid for with the proceeds from the Fundación ARCO Dinner, held on Tuesday 4 March. The works acquired, with the advice from
Tania Pardo, director of the CA2M Museum, and Francesco Stocchi, artistic director of MAXXI, are those by Pauline Cournier -Chertlüdde-; Karlos Martínez -Formatocomodo-; Julia Montilla -Ethall; Damaris Pan -Fermay-; Camila Rodríguez -Casas Riegner-, and Mariela Scafati -Isla Flotante-. Added to these are the works by Alegría y Piñero -Alarcón Criado-; Leonor Serrano de Rivas -Carlier | Gebauer-, acquired with the support from Consejo Internacional de la Fundación ARCO, Ana Buenaventura -José de la Mano-, originating from the donation by MIA Art Collection, and David Bestué -Ehrhardt Flórez-, de Frèderic Malle.
In turn, the Community of Madrid has granted its ARCO 2025 award to the artist Mónica Mays for her works Exhausted disbelief and Hermes, from the Pedro Cera gallery in Madrid. The winning works will become part of the collection of the Museo Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, in Móstoles.
The Madrid City Council has acquired two new works of art to add to the permanent collection of the municipal Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC). These are a piece by the Valencian artist Victoria Civera, and another by the Galician artist Irma Álvarez-Laviada.
As for the Junta de Andalucía, it has purchased works from 10 Andalusian artists in 8 participating galleries at ARCO. With an investment of more than 100.000 euros, it has acquired works by the artists Alegría y Piñero, Fátima Moreno, Cachito Vallés, Miguel Benlloch, Manuel M. Romero, Álvaro Albaladejo, Hodei Herreros, Curro González and Timsam Harding, from the galleries Alarcón Criado, Rafael Ortiz, Ehrhardt Flórez, Olga Adelantado, The Ryder, Barbel, T20 and Artnueve. All these will become part of the Andalusian Centre for Contemporary Art collection, under the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Junta de Andalucía.
The Fundación María Cristina Masaveu Peterson has purchased works by Miler Lagos -Max Estrella-; Inés Figaredo -Cayón-; Alicia Vogel -Mayoral-; Claire de Santa Coloma - 3+1 arte contemporánea-; Diana Fonseca -El apartamento-; Sheila Hicks -Meyer Riegger-; Ai WEI WEI -Elvira González-, Grau Garriga -Sabrina Amrani-, and Teresa Lanceta -1 Mira Madrid-.
Fundación Sorigué, on the other hand, has acquired works by the artists Pere Llobera, at the Bombon Projects gallery; Fernanda Fragateiro -Elba Benítez; Tomás Demand and Daniel Steegmann Mangrané -Esther Schipper-; Pipo Hernández Rivero - NF/Nieves Fernández, and Christian Lagata -Artnueve-.
The Fundación María José Jove Art Centre has purchased Superficie neutra, 2023, by Mercedes Pimiento, and Vida primigenia #2, 24 by Patricia Dauder.
The Rucandio Collection Acquisition Award has been granted to the work Joven, pasa a la acción, by Miguel Ángel Tornero, represented by the gallery Juan Silió.
